AFC ¼ final stats: Qatar vs South Korea head-to-head

January 25 – World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar will take on South Korea today in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup quarter final at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, aiming to create some history of their own history and progress to the semi-finals for the first time. 

The Koreans, who progressed to the quarter final by beating Bahrain 2-1 in round 16, have plenty of experience in this round.

The Zayed Sports City Stadium encounter will be fourth time the two national teams clash in the Asian tournament. The three previous head-to-heads were all in the group stage. Koreans won twice and Qatar once.

The first continental match between Qatar and South Korea dates back to the 1980 Asian Cup, Korean won 2-0, but Qataris responded four years later with 1-0 victory. In a 1988 Asian Cup thriller, the Koreans won 3-2.

Now they are meeting again but for the first time in the knock-out stage. Qatar’s new generation are looking to upset Korean priogress to their 5^th continental semifinal.

The all-time head-to-head stats show that Qatar and South Korea have met 9 times, with the Koreans winning 5 times, Qatar twice and two matches being drawn.
