February 26 – Ticket sales for the U-20 FIFA World Cup began on Monday as Visa cardholders got an exclusive window to apply for matches at the first-ever FIFA competition to be staged in Poland.
At the weekend Gdynia staged the draw for the tournament with legends Bebeto, winner of the U-20 World Cup in 1983 and the World Cup in 1994, and Fernando Couto, winner of the U-20 title in 1989, deciding the faith of the 24 participants. The hosts will open the competition against Colombia on May 23. The final will be played on June 15 in Lodz.
Bielsko-Biala, Bydgoszcz, Gydnia, Lublin, and Tychy will feature as the other five host cities to welcome a first FIFA tournament to Poland. The Polish beat India for the right to stage the youth competition. In 2012 Poland co-hosted Euro 2012 together with Ukraine.
As of Monday fans, with a Visa card, were able to purchase tickets for the youth event. Tickets for the group stages start at 10PLN (1,99 GBP) with a category one ticket for the final costing 40PLN (7,96 GBP).
In 2017 England won the last edition of the tournament, defeating Venezuela in the final in South Korea. The defending champions will not feature in Poland after failing to qualify. They lost a World Cup play-off 3-0 against Norway.
