May 21 – The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has agreed a three-year partnership with MG Motor UK to become its Official Vehicle Partner.
The new deal sees MG Motor increase its involvement with Welsh football having previously been a committed supporter of the Welsh Premier League Cup competition, now becoming title sponsor (Welsh Premier League Cup will be renamed to the Nathaniel MG Cup), as well widening its involvement across the full spectrum of Welsh men’s and women’s football.
Jonathan Ford, FAW CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome MG as the Official Vehicle Partner of the Football Association of Wales. The FAW are very appreciative of their support during an exciting period for Welsh football and look forward to the next three years of mutual success.”
Previously Wales had a deal with Vauxhall who also had sponsorship deals with the four British nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Vauxhall allowed all four sponsorships to expire at the end of the 2018 World Cup, having been the leading sponsor partner of all four nations since 2011.
Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG Motor UK, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the FAW, supporting the top talent found in the national teams and the growth of grassroots football across Wales. MG has a strong presence here with a network of 10 dealers across the country, and we’re proud to be able to put something back into the community. MG is the fastest growing car manufacturer in the UK and we hope that our success can be replicated by the Welsh National Teams over the next three years.”
No value was given for the sponsorship.
Wales leave today for a 6-day training camp in the Algarve before June’s Euro 2020 qualifiers in Croatia and Hungary.
