June 24 – French chemicals firm Arkema has taken a deeper step into the women’s game in France by picking up the title sponsor of Division 1 Féminine in a three-year deal.
Arkema are a local sponsor of the World Cup currently taking place in France.
No value was given for the deal which begins with the new club season in August and runs until the end of the 2021/22 campaign. The English Women’s Super League recently agreed a £10 million naming rights deal with Barclays.
The French top flight will be known as the D1 Arkema. The women’s league earlier this month announced Uber Eats as a new sponsor.
Thierry Le Hénaff, CEO of Arkema, said: “Becoming the ‘Title Partner’ of the D1 Feminine quickly is an extension of our Women’s World Cup partnership. This is an asset for the Arkema brand but also a strong commitment for the Group. We are contributing with the FFF to develop women’s football in our national territory. It is a great opportunity to enhance the image and place of women in society. The world changes, it is essential to bring another look, to move the lines, at Arkema this is our state of mind and our belief. ”
France is one of the favourites to win the World Cup in France and Division 1 Féminine has some of Europe’s leading clubs, including six times Champions League winner Lyon.
Noel Le Graët, president of the French Football Federation (FFF), said: ” This naming contract is a first for the women’s D1 championship and excellent news for the development of football… it is a continuation of the Federation’s action plan for women’s football. Since 2011, the FFF has been heavily involved in promoting and structuring amateur, professional and education in the women’s game.”
