CAF in crisis: Ahmad pressure increases after accusations of double-claiming expenses

July 17 – More pressure is mounting on under-fire African football chief Ahmad, this time over an expense bill he is claimed to have taken from his confederation.

The BBC claims the FIFA vice-president twice claimed for payments from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for assignments carried out between 23 June and 1 July last year.

Documents suggest he signed for daily allowances from both Egypt and Russia during the same period of time, the BBC alleges. It added that he may have been in neither country for the period 27 June to 1 July but in his native Madagascar.

Last month, FIFA and CAF announced that FIFA general secretary Fatma Samoura will oversee administrative reform in the governance of African football’s ruling body from August 1 as a result of the chaos that has occurred under Ahmad’s leadership.

Ahmad, who took charge in March 2017, is believed to be under investigation by both FIFA’s Ethics Committee itself and by French anti-corruption authorities even though he has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.
