July 25 – Facebook has released a set of stats following CAF’s AFCON 2019 championship in Egypt that show more than 10 million people got involved on the social media platform. The official tournament Facebook page had more than 3.6 million likes.
The Facebook data was measured from June 21, when AFCON started, to July 16, and tracked Facebook conversation including posts, comments, shares, likes and reactions related to the tournament. Conversations were identified based on keywords and combinations of keywords that were associated with discussions around AFCON 2019.
In total Facebook said there were more than 30 million AFCON-related interactions (likes, comments, reactions etc), while the most talked about players were Riyad Mahrez from Algeria, followed by Mohamed Salah from Egypt.
The most discussed national teams were Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria, South Africa and Tunisia. The countries that discussed AFCON the most were Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Algeria and Senegal.
