Welsh secure JD as league title sponsor for 7 years and rebrand with Cymru name

July 25 – The Welsh FA (FAW) has announced a new seven-year title sponsorship deal for the top tiers of its domestic league and a rebranding of the competitions embracing the country’s Welsh-language name – Cymru – in the title.

The league structure will now be known as the JD Cymru Leagues with ‘JD Cymru Premier’, being the renamed top tier, while ‘JD Cymru North’ and ‘JD Cymru South’ will replace the Huws Gray Alliance and Welsh League Division 1 respectively.

These leagues will come under the FAW’s jurisdiction for the first time, said an FAW press release.

A new visual identity uses the country’s national flower, the daffodil, has been introduced for the new season. Previously the daffodil had been used to represent the 11 players of the national teams. Seven daffodils, each representing one of the seven leagues of Welsh domestic football’s top three tiers, upon completion of the pyramid restructure, come together to form the ball logo.

Sportswear retailer JD has been a partner of Welsh domestic football since 2015 as the title sponsor of the JD Welsh Cup and becoming the title sponsor of the Welsh Premier League in 2017 as well as the Exclusive Retail Partner to the FAW since 2013.  Their renewal will cover all three top divisions. The deal will run until the 2025/26 season. No value was given for the sponsorship.

Ian Davis, head of marketing and commercial at the FAW, said: “We are thrilled that JD have extended their support of Welsh domestic football. The successful pyramid restructure has brought Tier 2 under the control of the FAW for the first time, and we are very pleased to have such a well- established, national brand partnering with us as the title sponsor of all three divisions.

“JD’s commitment to Welsh football is unquestionable, and we are delighted that they will be the inaugural title sponsor of the new FAW league system for the next seven seasons.”
