July 26 – FC Barcelona have broken the billion dollar revenue mark for the second season running, announcing that for the 2018/19 year income rose to €990 million ($1.1 billion).
For the 2017/18 season, Barcelona recorded €914 million in revenue. The club has said that it aims to break the €1 billion mark by 2021, though at the current rate of growth it could see it surpass that milestone next season.
While revenue grew, so did club spending. For the 2018/19 campaign the club’s spending was €973 million, with their pre-tax operating profit dropping to €17 million compared to the €20 million for the 2017/18 season.
“The club has achieved its highest revenue ever and it’s important to highlight that the income is €30 million more than the budgeted figure of €960 million,” Barcelona told ESPN. “It is in line with the club’s strategic plan to generate an annual turnover of €1 billion by 2021.”
