Leasing.com takes title sponsorship of EFL Trophy in 3-year deal

August 6 – The English Football League has announced Leasing.com as the title sponsor of the EFL trophy, its cup competition that sees League One and League Two clubs compete with Premier League U-21 teams.

The three-year title sponsorship will see the competition renamed as the Leasing.com Trophy, running through to the end of the 2021/22 season.

Last season’s Wembley final saw Portsmouth beat Sunderland 5-4 on penalties. This season’s competition begins this week with Manchester United U21s and Liverpool U21s make their debuts in the competition, with Group Stage games against Rotherham United and Oldham Athletic.

The competition has a 127-match schedule across six rounds and a £3 million annual prize fund that has recently been agreed for three seasons. As well as title sponsorship, Leasing.com will become an official sponsor of the EFL and receive a package of rights across the EFL and its digital network.

No value was given for the sponsorship.

EFL chief commercial officer, Ben Wright, said: “With the revised format now firmly established, this competition continues to go from strength to strength and the EFL is looking forward to working with the Leasing.com  team as we plot this season’s journey to Wembley and move on to the next chapter of the EFL Trophy’s history.”

Car leasing is becoming an increasingly consumer-driven business having previously been seen as something that was only available to businesses. David Timmis, founder and MD of Leasing.com, says that over the past 20 years it has helped more than a million people find a car.

“We’re delighted and immensely proud to have secured sponsorship of the EFL Trophy as part of our ongoing brand development campaign,” said Timms.

“We want Leasing.com  to become a household name and what better way to achieve that than to sponsor one of the most high-profile tournaments in English football…this sponsorship offers an ideal opportunity for us to help millions more ‘Say goodbye to buying’.

“The EFL Trophy continues to grow every year and has huge potential, so it’s a perfect partnership and we can’t wait to get the ball rolling.”
