September 27 -Manchester City has partnered with esports business FaZe Clan to bring closer together the fans of the club and video gaming with a range of new experiences.
FaZe Clan has built a business around its roster of influential YouTubers, live streamers, pro-players and competitive teams. FaZe Clan was formed ten years ago on YouTube by teenage Call of Duty players who decided to change their gamer-tags to form FaZe Clan. It claims to have 214 million fans internationally across all social platforms and more than 500 million monthly views of its content.
A Man City press release said: “FaZe and City will collaborate to create engaging content with talent and players, as well has hosting exclusive fans events in the US and around the world. FaZe and City will also bring their FIFA players together in a shared training facility and launch limited edition, co-branded retail products that fans can enjoy.”
Man City has its own dedicated FIFA player playing in tournaments across the world and has launched a FIFA Online team in China, with plans to add gamers from South Korea as the team grows across Asia. The club hosted the Man City Esports Cup last year which saw 10,000 City-supporting amateur gamers take part.
Earlier this week Man City owners City Football Group beefed up its club partnership with video game maker EA Sports, tuning it into a global deal across all seven of its owned clubs. The multi-year deal sees EA Sports become the Official Gaming Partner for City Football Group (CFG) in what CFG is saying “will see a deeper and more integrated approach.”
Nuria Tarre, chief marketing officer at City Football Group, said: “Esports is the world’s fastest growing spectator sport and this collaboration with FaZe Clan marks the start of an exciting new chapter in Manchester City’s esports journey. We recognise that fans want to celebrate their love for football across many aspects of their lives, including fashion, music and gaming, to create a culture that goes beyond what happens on the pitch.
