October 23 – Yet another incident of racism has plagued English football with Manchester United indefinitely banning a supporter who allegedly directed racist abuse at a Liverpool player in Sunday’s globally televised 1-1 draw between the two fierce rivals.
United stewards ejected the fan, who British media report had targeted Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, in the first half of the game.
A United spokesperson said: “Racism and all forms of discrimination are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our club.
“Following our investigation into the alleged incidence of racist abuse on Sunday, we have issued an indefinite ban to the individual involved.”
In August two other United players Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba suffered racist abuse on Twitter. The club are travelling to Serbia for their Europa League game against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday and will hope no other incidents of discrimination occur in a country notorious for dishing out abuse.
