October 25 – Bayern Munich have made an official complaint to UEFA after a youth match against Olympiakos was abandoned because of crowd violence.
The Germans said several fans were taken to hospital after they were attacked by masked thugs during the match on Tuesday which preceded the Champions League encounter between the sides.
Bayern were leading 4-0 after 84 minutes when the under-19 match was abandoned.
“The incident shocked us,” said Bayern coach Martin Demichelis. “Our thanks go to the players, the coach and the Olympiakos officials who took care of us after these events”.
Greek police say four Bayern fans were injured after around 80 people, many wearing motorcycle helmets or armed with clubs, invaded a training ground in Athens where the under-19 sides were playing.
“Olympiakos FC strongly condemns the attack during the match. These intruders have nothing to do or no relation whatsoever with the Olympiakos family,” a Greek statement said.
