Spanish fans set record attendance levels acoss LaLiga’s top two divisions

January 13 – LaLiga is reporting more than 7.6 million fans attended matches in the first half of the 2019/20 season in Spain’s top two divisions, up by 85,727 on last season (a rise of 1.53%).

The split between the two leagues shows top tier LaLiga Santander seeing 5,398,206 fans through the gates (a 5% increase), with 255,086 more fans attending games.

The second tier LaLiga SmartBank recorded fewer fans (stadium capacities are smaller than last season) but higher stadium occupancy rates at 51.6%. More than 2.2 million attended matches.

LaLiga Santander occupancy is at 74.3% with an average of 28,412 spectators.

LaLiga said it “has set itself a target of breaking new ground by surpassing 15 million in-stadium spectators across the two leagues. This would represent a significant rise from the figure of 13.1 million recorded at the close of the 2013/14 season.”
