Nigerian gunmen kidnap two players on coronavirus leave

March 20 – Two  Nigerian footballers have been kidnapped while taking a break because of the coronavirus with  their country’s league suspended.

Dayo Ojo (pictured) and Benjamin Iluyomade were both abducted by gunmen  according to local reports

Ojo, capped seven times for the Super Eagles, was part of the country’s national team who finished as runners-up at the 2018 African Nations Championship.

His club  Enyimba FC said in a statement: “Enyimba Football Club can announce that midfielder Ekundayo Ojo has been abducted by gunmen along the Benin-Owo expressway.

“At this time, and considering the sensitivity of the incident, Enyimba Football Club wishes to call on members of the media to refrain from reports or speculation capable of jeopardising the players’ safety.”
