April 15 – Arsenal has opened an official account on Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok, the world’s fastest-growing social media platform.
The move is a continuation of Arsenal’s fan engagement expansion in China. This season the club launched on Douyin, the Chinese version of the popular social app.
In total the club has 70 million followers across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter, and launched the Arsenal Bot on Facebook Messenger last season.
Chris Harris, managing editor at Arsenal Digital, said: “It’s a great opportunity to reach a new and younger audience and, with our fans hungry for interaction and entertainment in these unprecedented times, we feel it’s a good time to get started.
“We’ve been encouraged by our players’ enthusiasm to get involved, and with their help we’re creating content that really embraces the unique nature of TikTok.”
The TikTok content will give fans “exclusive access to first-team stars, behind-the-scenes content, current trends, challenges and exclusive mini-series, as well as memorable goals and celebrations”, said an Arsenal press release.
