May 6 – The England and Scotland national sides have made substantial donations to Britain’s National Health Service as both countries continue the fight against coronavirus.
The England team have made what is described as a “significant donation”, using match fees dating back to September 2018 covering 16 matches in a move that was instigated and orchestrated by the squad. England’s women players made a separate collective donation last month.
Scotland’s men’s and women’s national teams have also teamed up to make a substantial donation to NHS Charities Together to support frontline workers across Scotland and the UK.
The United Kingdom has overtaken Italy to report the highest death toll from the pandemic in Europe at 32,313, figures released on Tuesday showed.
