May 19 – Qatar will aim to complete their domestic season by August 26, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced.
The QFA wants the domestic season to resume on July 24. The 12-team QNB Stars League has five rounds of regular play to complete the season.
In a statement the QFA wrote that the “decision to play in the selected period along with accompanying preventive procedures was taken after consultation with authorities in the MOPH with the aim of maintaining the safety of all concerned personnel including players, staff, officials and referees.”
On March 14, Qatar suspended the QSL following the outbreak of the coronavirus. The new decision follows a previous suspension that the QFA imposed until the end of May.
Before the game went into shutdown, Al Duhail were leading the table on 42 points, four points ahead of Al Rayyan while defending champions Al Sadd are third with 32 points.
Venues for the restart haven’t been chosen but the QFA could move the games to the cooled world cup stadia to avoid the heat of summer.
