May 27 – SIGA will launch its new intergenerational 2020/2021 Global Agenda for Gender Equity in Sport on Sunday 7 June 2020, symbolically coincide with the anniversary of inaugural match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup that proved to be a game-changer for the perception of the women’s game.
SIGA has been an advocate for gender equity and female leadership in sport, in particular promoting gender equity and diversity within the decision-making structures of sports organisations as a bespoke universal standard.
SIGA launched its Global Mentorship Programme for Aspiring Female Leaders in Sport in 2018 and 2019, and has organised a series of special sessions on Female Leadership.
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, SIGA’s CEO and Chairman and CEO of SIGA AMERICA, said: “Access to leadership roles in Sport must be determined, not by gender, race, zip code or any other prejudicial criteria, but by merit. And yet, as things stand, female representation in the highest executive organs of the international sports federations is confined to a mere 18.3%. This is not right! Gender equity, diversity and inclusion in Sport cannot be just words of circumstance, used once a year, on International Women’s Day.”
The SIGA series of thought leadership initiatives, events and partnerships will be developed over the next 12 months with the objective of “raising global awareness and promoting inter-generational debate about the most pressing issues, empower women’s participation in the governance of sport and incentivise the necessary reforms across all sports, including women’s sports,” said a SIGA press release.
This is the 22nd in a set of 30th boosting measures as part of the Alliance’s global campaign #SIGASTRIVES.
