Premier League players to drive themselves to pre-restart friendlies

June 3 – Premier League clubs have been given permission to play friendly matches, with strict restrictions, before the scheduled restart of fixtures on June 17.

But venues must be no more than 90 minutes away and players must travel in their own cars to and from fixtures while wearing the kit they will play in.

If held at official stadiums, rather than training grounds, players will enter via the players’ entrance and walk straight onto the pitch, before warming up. Dressing rooms will not be used.

Premier League clubs were cleared to resume contract training last week, paving the way for competitive action to resume later this month.

Reports suggest that some teams will have to play three times in seven days as part of the new fixture list, fuelling the prospect of fresh injuries with so little training. The prospective date for finishing the season is  the weekend of July 25-26 but the FA Cup is complicating matters, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals still to fit into the schedule before the final takes place on August 1.
