June 17 – Small crowds could potentially return to English stadiums in September if there is no significant increase in the number of Covid-19 deaths and infections, according to Britain’s Culture Secretary.
As the Premier League resumed behind closed doors on Wednesday, Oliver Dowden urged fans to stay away from grounds to prevent the spread of the virus.
But he said he hoped that within the next few months clubs might be able to welcome fans back into their stadiums.
A one-month turnaround is expected between the end of the current campaign and the beginning of next and although full stadiums will be some way off, Dowden said: “I would really hope that by the return of the new season we might be in a position whereby some fans could start to return to stadiums.
“And I know that would be another important part of restoring the financial position of clubs.”
