March 6 – LaLiga’s Sevilla have extended their kit supply deal with Nike for another year, taking them to the end of the 2021-22 season.
The early extension of the Nike deal follows a year in which Sevilla announced a 51% increase in merchandising sales. The club control back of its licensing business last season.
With a fourth-placed finish in last season’s LaLiga, Sevilla has qualified for UEFA’s club competitions and slice of the Champions League pie.
Sevilla reportedly get a €500,000 (US$592,000) bonus from Nike for reaching the Champions League and €100,000 (US$118,000) for reaching the Europa League. The club also earns 10% of the national sales of club-branded Nike merchandise and 15% of international sales.
Sevilla have still to secure a main shirt sponsor for next season after Marathonbet agrred an early exit from its two-year €5 million a season deal signed in 2019.
Another bookmaker sponsor has been rumoured but the current direction of Spanish law will not allow a gaming sponsor logo on club shirts. LaLiga and its clubs are hoping that a compromise can be reached with advertising and gaming regulators over promotional rules.
