September 29 – Fourteen players and staff members of Serie A side Genoa have tested positive for Covid-19 as the virus continues to disrupt a spate of clubs across the Continent.
Reports suggest between 8-10 cases are members of the playing squad though only goalkeeper Mattia Perin and midfielder Lasse Schone have so far been named.
According to Sportitalia, the latest round of swabs followed Sunday’s 6-0 defeat to Napoli.
“Genoa CFC announce that after today’s tests, the number of COVID-19 positive employees has risen to 14 between team members and staff,” a statement said.
“The club has activated all the procedures as per the protocol and informed the authorities. The club will give updates as the situation evolves.”
Genoa’s game against Torino next weekend is in serious doubt as could be Napoli’s high-profile fixture against Juventus since all the Napoli players and staff members will also need to undergo testing.
