October 20 – Manchester City’s Argentine striker Sergio Aguero will reportedly avoid retrospective action after being caught on camera placing his hand on the shoulder of a female assistant referee during last Saturday’s Premier League win against Arsenal.
In what was described by some in the media as a patronising gesture, Aguero was seen touching lineswoman Sian Massey-Ellis – something usually punished by a yellow card.
Aguero showed his frustration after taking exception to Massey-Ellis signalling for a throw-in for Arsenal and confronted the official. Massey-Ellis was then seen shrugging Aguero off before the game continued.
Having avoided any punishment during the match reports suggest Aguero will not be sanctioned retrospectively either.
City manager Pep Guardiola defended his player, who was making his first appearance since June after recovering from a knee injury, as “the nicest person I ever met in my life.”
