Wales stand Giggs down for 3 matches while assault charges investigated

November 4 – Wales manager Ryan Giggs has been forced to pull out of taking charge of the team for the next three international fixtures amid allegations of assault.

Giggs has denied the allegations made in the British media after he was arrested following a disturbance at his home.

“The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp,” the Welsh FA said in a statement.

Assistant coach Robert Page will take charge for the fixtures against the United States, Ireland and Finland.

Giggs’ representatives said on Tuesday that he was cooperating with police. “Mr. Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him,” they  said.

The FAW, which was scheduled to name its squad for the three upcoming games on Tuesday, said the squad would now be released on Thursday.

The former Manchester United star won a stack of honours as a player and represented Wales 64 times between 1991 and 2007. He took over as national coach in 2018.
Tabloid newspaper reports said, meanwhile, that Giggs’ girlfriend has moved out of his £1.7 million mansion.
