November 5 – Zamalek scored two late goals as they came from behind to beat Raja Casablanca 3-1 on Wednesday for a 5-1 aggregate victory that sets up a mouth-watering all-Egyptian African Champions League final against arch-rivals Al Ahly on November 27.
The second leg, originally scheduled for last month, had been twice delayed when up to 16 Raja players tested positive for COVID-19 but Zamalek’s win condemned the Moroccans, last in the final of the continent’s top club competition 18 years ago, to nearly men once again.
Zamalek have won five Champions League titles compared to the record eight for their Cairo rivals but they have never met in final which will be played at the Borg Al Arab Stadium outside Alexandria.
It will be the first time African’s elite club tournament has been decided between teams from the same country and also the first over a single game rather than two legs because of the global Covid-19 pandemic.
