New £6 COVID Antigen rapid test could be key to returning fans to stadia

November 13 – UK biotech start-up, Proviris Solutions, has launched a £6 COVID-19 antigen rapid test that gives results in under 15 minutes and could be a key tool in allowing sports fans back into stadia.

The Antigen Rapid Test works by detecting the presence of viral proteins (antigens) in the respiratory tract. If the target antigen is present it will bind to specific antibodies fixed to a paper strip enclosed in the card and generate a visually detectable signal, within 15 minutes. The tests are best used to identify acute or early infection antigens when the virus is actively replicating.

Alongside the test Proviris Solutions has also developed its COVID Pass digital app to help individuals access their results. In the case of a negative result, the application will display a COVIDPass, valid for five days. Those with positive results are instructed to get a PCR test and follow national guidelines. The application can be downloaded to mobile devices and receives the result sent via the healthcare professional administering the test.

“Sports fans around the world are desperate to get back to watching their team, and club owners, stadia and arena need their presence. This will enable sports clubs, national bodies and communities to welcome fans back into their stadium to watch live sport, safely and virus free,” said Dr Bobby Ahmed, Medical Director, Proviris Solutions.
