November 27 – Manchester United are reeling from a cyber attack that has hacked its computer systems with some club staff reportedly unable to access emails.
The country’s National Cyber Security Centre has been assisting United, saying “we are working with the organisation and partners to understand impact.”
United are not commenting on who may be behind the attack, whether a ransom has been requested or the motives. But they reiterated they were not currently aware of any supporter data being affected.
“Following the recent cyber attack on the club, our IT team and external experts secured our networks and have conducted forensic investigations,” a statement said.
“This attack was by nature disruptive, but we are not currently aware of any fan data being compromised. “
The NCSC said earlier this month that it had defended the UK from more than 700 cyber attacks in the last year, adding that it dealt with three times as many ransomware attacks compared with the year before.
