December 15 – Concacaf kicks of the centralised finish to its Champions League tonight with a double of hearer of quarter finals games at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium.
CD Olimpia from Honduras start proceedings against Canada’s Montreal Impact with a 2-1 lead from the first leg that was played nine months ago. If successful, it would be the first time the Hondurans have reached a Champions League semi-final.
Tonight’s second match will see Mexico’s Tigres, who have won the competition three times, looking to hold on to a 1-0 advantage over New York City FC.
NYCFC’s preparation have been hampered by three new Covid-19 positive cases been confirmed in the past week forcing a change of roster and of travel arrangements.
Replacements from the original 35-player roster have been drafted in while Concacaf agreed to provide the club with more time to conduct additional testing, and to fly into Orlando on match-day.
Concacaf have said that if NYCFC overcome the goal deficit and progress, arrangements will be made for the team to isolate and conduct further testing in Orlando prior to the semi-finals.
Concacaf was forced postponed its Champions League in March,at the Quarterfinal Stage. With seven matches to complete the confederation took the decision to centralise in Orlando behind closed doors.
The final will be played December 15 with the champion going on to represent Concacaf at the Club World Cup 2020, now scheduled to be played February 1-11, 2021, in Qatar.
