Qataris juggle host stadia after Auckland’s withdrawal from Club World Cup

January 19 – Following confirmation that Auckland City FC will be unable to participate in the Club World Cup due to the Covid-19 pandemic and related quarantine measures required by the New Zealand authorities, FIFA has adapted the competition’s match schedule and stadiums.

The  opening match has now been forfeited and the tournament will be held at Education City and Ahmad Bin Ali Stadiums while Khalifa International Stadium, originally due to host two games, will not be used. Ahmad Bin Ali stadium will stage the first match on February 4.

The tournament now comprises Al-Duhail SC, Al Ahly SC, FC Bayern Munich, Ulsan Hyundai FC, Tigres UANL and the winners of Conmebol’s Copa Libertadores final scheduled for January 30.
