February 26 – Manchester United were paired today with AC Milan in mouth-watering heavyweight clash in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Milan sit second in Serie A but have never won the competition while United’s only title came in 2017.
Arsenal, finalists in 2019, face Greek side Olympiakos, who knocked them out in the last 32 stage last year. All eight ties will be played on March 11 and 18, the winners of the competition gaining a spot in next season’s Champions League.
The United-Milan clash has a host of sub-plots with veteran former Old Trafford striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic looking set to return in the second leg for what will be the 12th tie in European competition between the sides, all previous meetings having been in the Champions League.
Clubs have until Monday to report any Covid-related travel issues to UEFA, after which a decision over confirmed venues will be made, as in the last 32 when a few ties were switched to neutral ground.
