Perez keeps grip on Real Madrid presidency until 2025

April 13 – Florentino Perez (pictured) has been re-elected as Real Madrid president for a fifth consecutive term in office, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday.

The Real Madrid strongman ran unopposed in the election last week and on Tuesday the club confirmed that Perez, 74, will serve another term as president, taking him through to 2025, his fifth consecutive term and sixth in total.

“This Electoral Board, having seen only one candidacy presented and by virtue of article 40, section E, point 2 of the club’s current bylaws, proclaims Don Florentino Perez Rodriguez as president of Real Madrid,” read a statement on Real Madrid’s website.

Perez took charge of the club in 2009 when he succeeded Ramon Calderon as president. He also chaired Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006. Under Perez, Real Madrid have enjoyed plenty of success in Europe, winning the Champions League four times in the past four decades.

Currently, Real Madrid are renovating their Santiago Bernabeu stadium. This season, they have been playing at the Alfred di Stefano Stadium behind closed doors. The club from the Spanish capital remains in contention for both La Liga and the Champions League where tomorrow they take a two-goal lead in to the second leg of their quarter final tie against Liverpool.
