April 16 – The United States remain at the top of the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, cementing their dominance of the game further, with European champions the Netherlands moving into third position.
The Dutch ascend the podium at the expense of France. The French were defeated by the US in a friendly and dropped out of the top three while the Netherlands defeated Australia 5-0, earning them a spot on the podium behind Germany in second.
Brazil moved into 7th spot, gaining a place and North Korea re-entered the top ten at the expense of Japan. Northern Ireland, who qualified for the first time for the European Championship, sit in 48th, having eliminated higher-ranked Ukraine.
The US have strengthened their grip on the top spot as they have gone unbeaten in six matches in 2021. They will start the Olympics in Tokyo in August as clear favourites to win back the title they have four of the six times since the women’s game has been played at the Olympic Games, Germany won the title at the Rio games in 2016.
