Celtic boss Lawwell’s house firebombed

May 20 – Scottish police are investigating an apparent firebomb attack at the home of Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

Lawwell and his family were forced to flee following the attack which had left them  “extremely shaken and shocked”.

Police said they were treating the fire as deliberate after security camera footage showed a man, dressed in black and with his head covered by a hood, pouring petrol on vehicles.

“This was a completely reckless act ….The consequences could have been so much worse but thankfully nobody was injured during this incident,” a police spokesperson said.

Lawwell confirmed in January he would retire at the end of June after 17 years at Celtic. He will be replaced by Dominic McKay, the former chief operating officer at Scottish Rugby.

Celtic have had a dismal season by their own high standards after being eclipsed by arch rivals Rangers who ended the season unbeaten 25 points clear of the green half of Glasgow – as well as ending Celtic’s bid for 10 successive Scottish titles.
