May 27 – UEFAhas fined Swedish legendZlatan Ibrahimovic for having a financial interest in the online sportsbookBethard Group and ordered that he cut ties with the organisation.
The AC Milan player was fined €50,000 by UEFA’s Appeals Body, for violating ‘Article 12’ of the confederation’s disciplinary rules
The Ibrahimovic investigation began after it was reported he had a 10% stake in the Malta-based bookmaker.
A €25,000 penalty has also been slapped on AC Milan, with a warning from UEFA for allowing its player to have a financial interest in Bethard.
Ibrahimovic can count himself lucky with the sanction as under UEFA’s rules he could have faceda maximum three-year ban from professional football.
“The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body also issued Mr. Ibrahimović with a directive aimed at ceasing the player’s association with the relevant betting company,” said UEFA.
