June 10 – With all the nervousness surrounding the staging of the Copa America in Brazil and the pull out of sponsors Mastercard and Ambev, support for the international game on the continent has been found via LATAM Airlines who have signed on as the official airline of the Chilean national soccer team.
The sponsorship, negotiated by the Mediapro Group, will see Latam as the official carrier of the men’s, women’s and youth teams through to 2022. No value was given for the deal.
“This appointment reinforces Latam’s commitment to connecting not only cities and countries, but also the sentiment of our athletes, beyond borders,” said Andreas Schek, Vice President of Sales for Latam Airlines Group. “Today we join forces with the dreams of all Chileans to take ‘La Roja’ to Qatar 2022 safely and on time.”
LATAM Airlines Group is one of Latin America’s man carriers, with a presence in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as international operations within Latin America and to Europe, the US and the Caribbean. The airline has increased its support of Chilean sports in recent years and in 2019, the airline was selected to carry Chilean athletes taking part in the Pan American and Parapan American Games. It also has agreements in place with the Peruvian, Paraguayan and Ecuadorian teams.
“Connecting La Roja with LATAM was one of the objectives we set ourselves when we shouldered the responsibility of bringing the Chilean National Teams to global standards of sports sponsorship. It is a unique and unprecedented opportunity to make La Roja visible, a new category of collaboration that among other features, will see the national team with its very own dedicated plane,” said Javier Villanueva, head of the Mediapro Group in Chile.
