June 18 – CBF interim president coronel Nunes has dismissed the organisation’s general secretary Walter Feldman, who will be replaced by Eduardo Zebini.
The crisis at the highest levels of Brazilian football rumbles on. On the eve of the Copa America, Rogerio Caboclo was suspended as CBF supremo for 30 days because of allegations of sexual harassment and his successor ad interim Nunes has fired the second in command, general secretary Feldman who had been in the role since 2015.
In a statement, the CBF wrote: “Eduardo Zebini is the new General Secretary of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). He was appointed this Thursday (17), replacing Walter Feldman, who is leaving the organization. The CBF thanks Feldman for the relevant services provided over the past six years.”
Caboclo had already tried to dismiss Feldman claiming a lack of confidence in the general secretary. The organization’s vice-presidents as well as former CBF president and disgraced football official Marco Polo del Nero were consulted before Feldman was sent on his way, according to Brazilian media outlet Globo.
Feldman arrived at the CBF following a career pathway in politics. In 2014, he coordinated Marina Silva’s campaign in the Brazilian presidential elections before accepting the position of general secretary at the Sao Paulo Football Federation.
Feldman is not the only high-profile casualty at the CBF. HR director Marco Dalpozzo’s letter of resignation, first written during the Caboclo crisis, was accepted by Nunes.
