June 23 – The AFC is to hold the draw for its expanded Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Qualifiers tomorrow. There will also be a draw for the play-off match-ups for the final two spots in the closing qualifying for the men’s Asian Cup China 2023.
The AFC’s marquee women’s championship in India next year will be the first time it has featured 12 teams. There will be 28 member associations in the draw tomorrow.
Defending champions Japan, runners-up Australia and third-placed China PR as well as hosts India have already qualified for the Finals.
The 28 nations in the qualifying draw will be divided into four seeding pots based on the Women’s Asian Cup Jordan 2018 ranking. Teams will be divided into four groups of four and four groups of three, with the winners of each group qualifying for India 2022, which is scheduled to take place January 20 to February 6.
Qualification groups will be centrally hosted in Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Palestine, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will all be placed in separate hosting pots. Bangladesh, Indonesia and Nepal are granted conditional hosting rights, which will be re-evaluated by the AFC six weeks before the first match of the Group for a final decision.
Thailand, Korea Republic, Philippines, Jordan, Vietnam and DPR Korea, will be placed in Pot 1, while Pot 2 will consist of Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Iran, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Pot 3 will include Iraq as well as non-ranked teams from Pot 4 (10 non-ranked teams) consisting of Afghanistan, Guam, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, and Turkmenistan.
Asian Cup China 2023 play-offs
Indonesia, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei and Guam are competing for the final two slots in the closing round of Asian Cup China 2023 play-offs.
The draw will create two pairings who will play home and away matches on September 7 and October 12. The two winners of the matches will join the other 22 nations who have already qualified to the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers Final Round.
