July 11 – Concacaf narrowly avoided a second fixture crisis on the second day of the Gold Cup after enforcing strict covid protocols on the Haitian team and management.
Haiti play the USA in the opening match of Group B in Kansas City tonight.
Last week, as part of the covid testing protocols all nations were undergoing, five Haiti players and one assistant coach returned a positive test result.
The five players were immediately isolated Haiti while Concacaf also took steps to increase the covid-secure bubble around the rest of the Haitian team and delegation, while at the same time conducting multiple further tests.
No further positives have been recorded and Concacaf have confirmed the match will be played as scheduled.
“In an abundance of caution, following those positive test results Concacaf insisted that the entire Haiti delegation isolate and carry out multiple rounds of additional COVID-19 testing. From those multiple additional rounds of testing, no further positive test results were returned,” said a Concacaf statement.
