Bundesliga pushes fan experience boundaries with SKY PerfecTV! live app launch in Japan

August 13 – Germany’s Bundesliga has agreed with its Japanese broadcast partner SKY PerfecTV!  to launch a live broadcast app – Bundesliga Live App – for the start of the season on September 7.

The app will allow users to customise their Bundesliga experience to watch matches on demand, as well as access a new suite of statistics.
Japanese fans can select their favourite teams and match events, to create a tailored viewing experience. The Bundesliga’s ‘Conference Experience’ software has been embedded into the app.

The DFL has recently committed to using technology that will boost the fan experience, combining with TeraVolt Germany for the enhanced broadcast, and with Amazon Web Service (AWS), the Bundesliga’s official technology provider, who will host the Interactive Feed and contribute technology to the delivery of the real time statistics.

Japan app users will be able to switch between matches, either by receiving alerts based on chosen events, or through the “autopilot” mode, in which artificial intelligence (AI) will guide users from match to match.

Users can also watch highlights from parallel matches at any time, and easily catch up with relevant match events (e.g., goals, chances, cards) that happened earlier. Japanese players Makoto Hasebe, Wataru Endo, and Daichi Kamada, who all play in the Bundesliga can be followed live. All clickable graphics will be available in Japanese.

SKY PerfecTV! has just renewed its Bundesliga International deal for a further five-years. The package gives the broadcaster coverage of more than 200 matches per season.
Bundesliga International CEO Robert Klein said: “This is a huge leap forward in the development of personalised viewing experiences, and it is a great thrill to be able to offer this to the Japanese fans, with which we have such a strong connection. Sky PerfecTV! have been a fantastic ally in enhancing Bundesliga coverage every matchday, and the Interactive Feed and Conference Experiences are two more steps on our innovation journey together.”
