Klopp comes out against Liverpool fans homophobic chant

August 20 – Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has condemned the homophobic chanting that marred Liverpool’s opening Premier League win at Norwich last weekend.

Liverpool issued a statement afterwards calling the chanting “offensive and inappropriate” while Paul Amman, one of the club’s supporters, expressed his disgust at hearing ‘Chelsea rent boy’ shouted at Billy Gilmour, who is on loan at Norwich from the London club.

Amman is the founder of Kop Outs, a group officially backed by the club that gives a voice to LGBT+ fans and have raised the issue of homophobia in football.

Klopp has branded anyone indulging in such chanting an ‘idiot’.

Liverpool face Chelsea a week Saturday and Klopp commented: “From a player or coach’s perspective, I can say these songs don’t help us as well. If you think what you sing, you are an idiot. I don’t want to hear it any more.”
