September 30 – ESPN has grabbed rights to the AFC’s major national team and club competitions for the 2021 to 2024 rights cycle, including the on-going and delicately poised Qatar 2022 qualifiers.
The rights will cover Latin America and Central America, as well as non-exclusive rights in the Caribbean.
It is a significant deal for the AFC who have joined with a major broadcaster for rights that include the Asian Cup China 2023, as well as the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup from the 2021 season, the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, and the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Paris 2024.
ESPN’s Latin America network broadcasts high-definition content in Spanish, Portuguese and English to audiences in more than 15 countries and is accessible to more than 39.5 million homes. ESPN is also carried on Star+, The Walt Disney Company Latin America’s streaming service.
