November 9 – The Bundesliga’s 1. FC Köln have extended their 14-year main sponsorship with the REWE Group for a further three seasons to June 2025. The deal includes the continuation of the front of shirt branding.
Starting with the 2007/08 season, the partnership has seen strong shared values with front of shirt logo position having on a number of occasions been given over to messages of for tolerance, integration and inclusion.
The REWE Group was founded in 1927 as a cooperative and is one of the leading retail and tourism groups in Germany and Europe. It has more than 380,000 employees in 22 European countries and in 2020 recorded sales of about €75 billion.
“We have experienced promotions and relegations together, represented 1. FC Koln in Europe together and stood by each other when the Corona pandemic made for a very difficult football year in the Bundesliga. We are therefore particularly pleased to move into the future together and to continue implementing our social projects, which are very important to us,” the club’s managing director Alexander Wehrle.
No value was given for the deal though the terms were described as being improved on from the previous sponsorships.
While the deal with 1.FC Koln is in the city where the company is headquartered, REWE also holds a number of sponsorships across German clubs via its regional subsidiaries: REWE Dortmund sponsors Borussia Dortmund; REWE Central Region sponsors Eintracht Frankfurt. REWE Southwest Region supports SV Sandhausen and REWE East Region sponsors 1. FC Magdeburg. In northern Germany, Hamburger SV is sponsored by REWE Northern Region.
