November 15 -Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has launched an astonishing attack on Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for having not won a single Champions League trophy between them despite being back by Middle East fortunes.
In a podcast in Germany, Hoeness expressed his joy at the Bavarians’ victory over PSG in the Champions League final in 2020 and didn’t mince his words when explaining why.
Hoeness, Bayern Munich’s president until 2019 and now honorary president of the club, savaged both PSG and City by saying their ‘s***ty money’ was not enough to guarantee European success.
While Bayern are governed by the German 50+1 model of ownership, City are backed by United Arab Emirates wealth and owned by Sheikh Mansour while PSG are owned by Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, making them both among the richest clubs in the world.
“So far these two clubs have not won anything. Nothing at all. They will lose to us again,” said Hoeness. “Not always, but from time to time. That should be our goal.
“And when we beat them, that makes me very happy. This is what stimulates me to show them, ‘your s****y money, that’s not enough!'”
Hoeness in particular criticised PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, a member of UEFA’s executive committee, declaring: “’I don’t know if he likes football.”
“The difference between him and I? I worked hard to earn my money and he received it as a gift. When he wants a player, he will find his emir.”
“What is currently happening in Paris is planning for one year. This is not my universe. “When we make decisions, we have to make sure that we still have security in three or four years, that everything does not collapse suddenly.”
