December 9 – Colombia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Seychelles and Thailand have all expressed an interest in hosting the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
FIFA said the five nations have until 30 January 2022 to submit their full bids. The FIFA Council is expected to award the 2023 hosting rights early next year.
In the summer, Russia staged the 2021 iteration of the competition, with the hosts, competing as team RFU, winning the world title, defeating Japan 5-2 in the final.
The tournament was first staged in 2005 by Brazil. Copacabana also organised the competition in 2006 and 2007 before FIFA took the Beach Soccer World Cup under its wing and the competition switched to a biannual format.
The United Arab Emirates is the only country from the five member associations that have expressed an interest in staging the 2023 edition to have hosted the finals previously. In 2011, Dubai played host to another Brazil victory.
Smaller nations like Tahiti and the Bahamas have had the chance of hosting the competition.
