The Conmebol nation, currently ranked 28^th in the world, qualified for the W Gold Cup as one top four teams from the Copa America Feminin.

What to expect

They could be the surprise package of the W Gold Cup, having recently caught the eye in last summer’s Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, being knocked out 2-1 in a close quarter final against England.

In two friendlies against the USA last October they drew the first 0-0 before losing the second 3-0.

They have also qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Drawn in Group B, they face Brazil who they have played 10 times but lost nine and only managing a single draw. This could be the tournament where they break that hex. Form would suggest they shouldn’t have too much difficulty disposing of Panama and Puerto Rico

Captain Daniela Montoya leads the team from midfield. Having graduated through the national junior teams she made her senior debut in 2010 and played at the 2011, 2015 and 2023 World Cup, She has 64 caps and has scored six goals.

Up front Catalina Usme is Colombia’s most capped player with 77 appearances and a record 39 goals

Colombia women’s team coach Nelson Abadia left his role after the South Americans achieved their best-ever World Cup finish. He was replaced on an interim basis by 38-year-old Ángelo Marsiglia.
