Qatar 2022 World Cup draw reportedly scheduled for April 1

February 17 – It’s not an April Fool’s joke but the draw for the World Cup finals in Qatar is reportedly being scheduled for April 1.

Spanish press reports say this is what FIFA has recently communicated to all 211 federations.

Nothing official has been released yet but if true, the draw would come 24 hours after the FIFA Congress in Doha.

The first ever winter World Cup starts on November 21 and ends on December 18. Unconfirmed reports say the draw will be held in person rather than virtually.

“Although the world continues to struggle against the ravages caused by the pandemic, FIFA has noted, not without optimism, certain signs throughout the world that point to the gradual improvement of the situation. Like our hosts in Qatar, we are convinced that by then it will be possible to hold the Congress in person,” Spanish reports have quoted the FIFA correspondence as saying.

Delegates who cannot attend due to travel restrictions in force due to the pandemic or for other reasons will apparently be guaranteed their participation remotely.
