February 23 – Roma boss Jose Mourinho has been slapped with a two-match touchline ban and a €20,000 fine after he was sent off during Roma’s 2-2 draw with Verona on Saturday.
Mourinho went on to the pitch to argue with the referee before kicking the ball into the crowd.
The Italian Football Federation said Mourinho “made serious allegations” against Pairetto, and entered the pitch “with a threatening attitude”.
Mourinho made a telephone gesture towards Pairetto, which Italian media suggested was in reference to the official’s father Pierluigi, who was involved in the Italian match-fixing scandal of 2006.
The former Porto, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham manager then left the Stadio Olimpico without stopping for his post-match media duties.
Mourinho was found guilty of “directing serious insinuations against the match referee as well as for, at the moment of his dismissal, entering the field of play in a threatening way to question the decision of the official and, finally, at the end of the game in the tunnel that leads to the dressing rooms, repeating the aforementioned insinuations directed at the match official.”
