Thai city Buriram confirmed as centralised venue for AFC Champions League group

March 18 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that the Champions League Group J centralised matches will be hosted in Buriram, Thailand, and played from April 16 to May 1.

Group J will be one three groups hosted in Thailand and will see former semi-finalists Shanghai Port FC from China, Thailand’s Chiangrai United FC, Kitchee SC from Hong Kong and Japan’s Vissel Kobe.

The other Champions League groups in East Asia will be hosted in Vietnam and Malaysia.

Saudi Arabia is hosting all five groups in the West Asian zone for qualifying.

The 2022 Champions League will be the first time the competition has been switched to spread across two years as the AFC transitions its club competition to follow the European calendar.

The group qualifiers will reconvene in February 2023 for the knockout rounds and final at a centralised venue.

The 2023 Champions League will start in October/November 2023 with group games with the knockout rounds being played in the early part of 2024, though all dates and whether venues will centralised are yet to be decided.
