March 22 – The rehabilitation of Saud Arabia as a good Asian Football Confederation citizen has taken another step of recognition yesterday with Saudi Arabia’s President of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal confirmed as the chair of the AFC Dream Asia Foundation Board of Trustees.
He will serve alongside Hong Kong Football Association Ltd. President and Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong President Timothy Fok Tsun Ting as well as the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) President and Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) Vice President Major General Khiev Sameth.
The foundation was launched in March 2017 with the aim to empower and uplift the most vulnerable communities across all 47 AFC Member Associations and the five Regional Associations by partnering with international and local non-profit entities and organisations.
The foundation delivers various social responsibility programmes and initiatives centred on the AFC Dream Asia Foundation’s three key pillars – Child Safeguarding, Education and Social Inclusion.
AFC President and Patron of the AFC Dream Asia Foundation Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, said: “The AFC Dream Asia Foundation was established with the primary purpose of driving the AFC’s ambitions of maximising the unifying force of our beautiful game to positively impact our vulnerable communities across Asia.
“Our three founding members bring with them their vast and diverse range of experiences and, on behalf of the Asian football family, I am pleased and honoured to welcome them to the AFC Dream Asia Foundation.
“Above all, the appointment of these outstanding domain experts reinforces the AFC’s commitment to ensure we deliver the most meaningful programmes in line with the industry’s best practices, whilst upholding the highest standards of good governance and accountability.”
