March 31 – FIFA has said that 804,186 tickets have been sold during first sales phase for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
“Individual Match Tickets – and tickets for the opening and final matches in particular – were the most popular products on offer, but fans also snapped up Team-Specific Ticket Series and Four-Stadium Ticket Series,” said FIFA.
The sales were made initially via a random selection draw and via a first-come, first-served phase that FIFA said saw increased interest from fans in the Arab region.
The top 10 countries where fans were showing the most interest were Qatar, the United States, England, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, India, Brazil, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.
The final draw this Friday will allocate teams to groups with FIFA then opening a new ticket sales window on Tuesday where fans buying tickets will be able to select tickets knowing where their teams will be playing.
Tickets requested in this window will be allocated via a random selection draw.
Tickets for the opening game on November 21 which will feature hosts Qatar, and the December18 final were the most popular ticket request. Last month FIFA said that it had received over 17 million ticket requests for the final.
